I have been learning to write a narrative. A narrative is something that is not true ( example : a fiction ). I really enjoyed imagining the narrative, also writing and typing it. Something I found challenging was thinking about the topic and how to write it. My next step is to finish it and work on it more.

I am learning to add the time together using pizza orders. I found it tricky because I used to not know how to tell the time. My next step is to work it out faster.

I am learning to make a prediction based on the cover and the blurb of the book, and lyrics and the trailer of the movie. I found it tricky because I didn't know what common elements mean. My next step is to try work it out myself.

Alphabet Symmetry Challenge

I am learning to identify lines of reflective symmetry. I found it easy because I know what symmetry and I learnt it already. My next step is to make my lines more straighter and even.

I am learning to sketch Maori gods. I found it tricky because getting the words and cutting the words out then colour the white spaces. My next step is to colour in all the white spaces and practise more drawing.

Decimal Place Value

Reflection
I am learning to work on decimals. I found it hard because I never done decimals in different classes. My next step is to try do it myself and not to ask for help next time. I know now that 405.871's greatest value is 405.871.

My Speech 2019

Reflection
I have been learning to write a persuasive speech. I found getting ideas challenging because I lost my draft. Something I learnt was we needed a introduction, three paragraphs and a conclusion. I enjoyed presenting it to the class but it felt like here was still butterflies in my tummy after I did that. My next step is to use more PEEL paragraphs and use more intresting language like an onomatopea.

I am learning to know common units of length and the tools used. My next step is to do more measurement.`I found it hard because I don't know that much about it.

Matariki Presentation

My Reflection
I am learning to about Matariki. I found this work interesting because it is related to the Maori culture. I was surprised that lots of people celebrate it because I didn't know that much people would. I still wonder how many days they celebrate it for. I know now that Matariki is one of the seven stars.

Information Report About Wellington

Reflection
I am learning to write an information report. An information report needs to have a  beginning middle and conclusion. It needs to include facts, and b written in the present tense. I found this tricky because it was extremely hard to find the information.

Reading Using Expression

My Reflection

I have been learning to use expression when I read out loud. We read a play called Robin Hood And The Silver Trophy. I think I can do better at expression because I am quite quiet. I found this challenging because I sometimes forget to have a little space because I normally don't have a space at a full stop. My next step is to use more expression and have a little bit of a break at a full stop.

Reflection
I have been learning to write a variety of sentences to use in my stories to make them more in my stories to make them more interesting for my readers .  My favorite sentence type was ¨Who can find coconuts in the palm trees¨?  A sentence I found tricky was The owl briskly flied to the rocks because I did not do that one on Monday because I was not here so I just thought of one.
My next step is to use a variety of interesting sentences in my writing.

ANZAC A-Z Challenge

I have been learning to find and information.  We have been learning about Anzac Day.  Something I learnt when I did this activity was that Gallipoli is in Turkey.  Something I found interesting was that thousands of New Zealanders died in the war. 

Summarising Information

Reflection
I am learning to summarise information in the activity  I had to find a famous NZ'er and me and my buddy Ali thought of Jacinda Ardern the prim minister.  In this activity  I had to pick a famous New Zealander with my buddy Ali we summarise the information and write into the correct information.
I found it tricky because I still don't really know how to summarise so my buddy Ali helped me.

I am learning to identifying parts of a graph. I found it easy because I know bar graphs and a line graph.

Statistical Investigation

Reflection
I have been learning to use the statistical enquiry cycle to carry out an investigation.  My investigation was to find out where people were born.
I was surprised that lots of people were born in New Zealand .
I found that the most challenging part was to ask people because it was so crowded.
Now I know how to do a google sheet.
My next step is to display the data using a different type of graph.

Welcome to my Year 5 learning blog.  This year I am in Room 24 and my teachers are Mrs Melville and Mrs Rayner.  I enjoy art.  A goal I have this year is to achieve my personal best.  I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feedback.
